Proud of Opera House Protest

"Many members of the peace movement are proud of the two young men who painted NO WAR on the Sydney Opera House," Dr Hannah Middleton from the Australian Anti-Bases Campaign Coalition (AABCC) said in Sydney this morning.

"With the majority of Australians and the majority of the world's people deeply opposed to this war against Iraq and no support from the United Nations, we are delighted that the picture of an anti-war slogan on an Australian icon has been flashed around the world.

"It may do a little to finally restore the reputation of the this country that we love," Hannah Middleton said.

Denis Doherty from the AABCC added: "The paint on the Opera House will fade or be washed away and the incident will be forgotten, but the Iraqi child who loses her eyes will not be mended and will not forget during a lifetime of disability."
